We share the stories of how we entered the therapy profession, and give some tips on why, and when therapy can be helpful, as well as some tips on how to find the right therapist for you.
We start out discussing a restorative trip to Jamaica, emphasizing the importance of choosing compatible travel companions. Then we move into a discussion about our career paths as therapists, highlighting the different experiences and motivations that led us into the field. We explore the differences between counseling and psychology, including the varied training and specialties within the professions.
We also cover the most common barriers to seeking therapy, including the significance of readiness, financial considerations, and overcoming stigma, particularly within the black community. We offer guidance for individuals seeking therapy, including how to find a therapist (hint: good ol' GOOGLE) and what questions to ask. We emphasize the importance of understanding a therapist's credentials and specialties to ensure a good fit.
This episode's Tap In or Tap Out' segment answers a listener question about what aspects of our upbringing do we bring into -or consciously drop- from our toolbox as we raise our own children.
